Three days full of ideas, discussions and technologies: Intersolar Europe 2025 as part of Smarter E in Munich with more than 100.000 visitors once again confirmed its status as the world's leading trade fair for the solar industry - and ENGIE was right in the thick of it. With an international stand team from Germany, France, Poland and other countries, we showed how we, as an integrated energy provider, are actively shaping the transformation to a climate-neutral future.
The focus was on concrete solutions: scalable, economical and resilient. Our trade fair presence was characterised by innovative strength and a clear understanding of the requirements of our customers - whether project developers, local authorities or industrial companies.
The exchange with trade fair visitors centred primarily on:
It became particularly clear: Battery storage solutions are no longer just a technological addition, but a central pillar of future energy systems. The number of trade visitors with specific enquiries about storage systems was higher than ever before.
Our Flexisun® model was once again present on our Engie booth. This solution developed by ENGIE LEI (Local Energy Infrastructures) activity enables C&I companies to maximize self-consumption of decarbonised energy, on average 20% higher than a photovoltaic installation alone, further reduce CO2 emissions and electricity bills, and increase energy self-sufficiency and resilience with regard to the grid
Our expertise not only attracted a great deal of attention at our stand, but also in the conference programme at Intersolar 2025. Three of our colleagues shared their knowledge in high-calibre panels:
Alexandra Fioux, Senior Construction Contracts Manager at ENGIE, spoke on 6 May about “Utility-Scale Solar Power: Trends in Development, Construction & Operation”, offering valuable perspectives on how evolving technologies and ESG compliance are shaping the future of large-scale solar projects. Her insights into contract models and quality criteria met with great interest - especially from project developers and investors.
"Owners must carefully evaluate suppliers and contractors based on their understanding of the technical requirements, H&S and quality culture. Establishing clear procurement processes and fostering strong partnerships with trusted industry players can help mitigate risks and streamline project execution", said Alexandra.
On 7 May, Eduard Foved Johe, Yield Assessment & Performance Manager,, addressed the topic of "Hybrid PV Power Plants". He shed light on the opportunities and challenges of combining solar & battery storage system, and exploring how integrated hybrid solutions enhance efficiency and open new business opportunities for sustainable energy models.
"The integration of storage and hybrid technologies requires a careful assessment of site-specific conditions, grid constraints, and market dynamics. Optimizing system design involves balancing capacity, storage duration, and dispatch strategies to align with demand patterns. Advanced modeling and real-time performance monitoring are crucial to ensuring long-term profitability”, emphasized Eduard.
A particular highlight was the presentation by Martin Daronnat, Head of Flexibility & Structured Origination at ENGIE Deutschland, in the panel "Commercial Models for Utility-Scale BESS". He explained how innovative contract models contribute to the financing of large storage solutions.
During the conference, Martin was also honoured with the Green Leadership Empowerment Award. This award recognises his many years of pioneering work and the commitment of the entire team, which concluded the first long-term physical contract for BESS in Germany - a milestone for the development of the storage market.
Laborelec, the ENGIE Research and Innovation Centre, was also represented at Intersolar 2025. As part of the global ENGIE Research and Innovation Centre, Laborelec combines scientific depth with operational proximity. In Munich, discussions centred on battery storage, system integration and grid-friendly applications.
"We are taking a lot of ideas with us - especially on how technical excellence can be translated even better into marketable solutions," said Andreas Wabbes from Laborelec. The trade fair offered him and his colleagues plenty of opportunities to exchange ideas with industry partners and customers - and to actively help shape the energy transition.
Intersolar 2025 has once again made it clear where the industry is heading:
The market figures also underpin the momentum: 655 GW of new PV capacity is expected to be installed worldwide in 2025 - another record figure. Germany remains one of the core markets, particularly for scalable solutions at industrial and municipal level.
Intersolar Europe 2025 has shown: The energy transition has long been a reality - but its realisation requires flexibility, partnership and innovation more than ever. ENGIE is strongly positioned in all these areas: from financing, engineering, construction and operation of complex systems to marketing.
We would like to thank all our partners, customers and colleagues for the intensive dialogue - and we are already looking forward to new projects and the next trade fair under the sign of the sun.
