ENGIE Deutschland is breaking new ground in employer branding: With the "Technicians as Ambassadors" program, we are focusing on a personal form of communication via colleagues who are passionate about technology, know ENGIE from the inside, and are willing to share their experiences. They act as ambassadors at trade fairs, university events, workshops, and internal formats.
"With 'Technicians as Ambassadors,' we are relying on the authenticity of our own employees to make the company even more tangible for technical professionals. Who better to talk about the challenges and opportunities at ENGIE than our own colleagues?"
Philipp Hepp, Chief Human Resources Officer, ENGIE Deutschland
Our ambassadors work as trainees, technicians, master craftsmen, site managers, or engineers. They report on their everyday working lives, talk about how they got started, the challenges they face, their successes, and why they enjoy working at ENGIE. These personal stories create a sense of closeness and trust: a strong signal in a market characterized by competition and a shortage of skilled workers.
"The program helps us to specifically address the target group of technical professionals and strengthen the employer brand in a new, very personal way. It's about making the people behind the job titles visible and providing genuine, unfiltered insights into everyday working life."
Sabrina Gleichmann, Head of Talent Acquisition, ENGIE Deutschland
The program also aims to make female colleagues in technical professions more visible, because diversity is not only reflected in numbers, but above all in faces and voices.
"Technicians as Ambassadors" is our response to an increasingly anonymous applicant landscape. In times when employers are outdoing each other with promises, we do what matters to us: we show real people and give them space to talk about what they do every day. In doing so, we combine professionalism with attitude, a central component of modern employer attractiveness.
Our ambassadors don't just have an external impact. The program also has a major effect internally: it promotes pride in one's own work, creates new networks across divisions and locations, and supports our ONE ENGIE culture. Personal visibility strengthens identification with the company and promotes long-term loyalty.
For the launch in August 2025, we have built a community of around 35 colleagues who work in technical professions. Important criteria for being named an ambassador are openness, communication skills, and personal motivation.
In preparation for their first assignments in 2025, we have trained the ambassadors over the past few weeks in presentation, communication, and company-specific expertise. Three days of assignments are planned per year in the future. Implementation is carried out in close cooperation with HR, Talent Acquisition, and Employer Branding.
"I had the opportunity to talk about my career at ENGIE at the ENGIE booth at the herCareer trade fair. The focus was on my current dual role as project manager for energy saving projects and chair of the works council. I was thrilled by the undivided attention of my audience and the great conversations at the end of the presentation. Not to mention my lovely ENGIE colleagues who looked after the booth. My conclusion: I was super excited, but I would do it again anytime!"
Anne Geier, Project Manager for Energy Efficiency
The project is currently on track. The first measurable effects are already apparent, both in terms of perception at recruiting events and in internal feedback. The budget was deliberately kept lean, but the benefits are nevertheless clear.
"My first impressions of the new program are thoroughly positive. You gain exciting insights into the world of trade fairs and benefit from the diverse experiences within the team, which show how to make presentations even more attractive. You also feel welcome right from the start—questions are taken seriously, and you receive immediate support."
Nathanael Katschorek, Apprentice Electronics Technician for Energy and Building Technology
Building the ambassador community is just the beginning. The program is set to grow further in the future, with topic-specific assignments, additional event formats, and a digital presence. Links to employer branding campaigns, university partnerships, and internal learning formats are already in the planning stage.
The onboarding of new ambassadors in subsequent years will also be part of a systematic expansion. The goal: a permanent, vibrant community that represents ENGIE externally and strengthens it internally.
"A key component of the program is promoting diversity—in particular, increasing the visibility of women in technical professions. This not only sends a clear signal about our commitment to diversity as an employer, but also opens doors to a broader and more diverse target group."
Sonja Bogenschütz, Head of People Development & DEI, ENGIE Deutschland
With "Technicians as Ambassadors," we give our skilled workers in technical professions a stage. We show that their work is indispensable for ENGIE. This program is a clear sign of our participatory culture: we trust in the competence of our employees, give them a voice, and make technical excellence visible.
In a labor market characterized by change and competition, we focus on what makes ENGIE special: real people with real expertise.
