  • ENGIE Deutschland plans and implements modern heating, cooling and sanitary systems in the Alte Kämmerei in Düsseldorf's old town by early 2025

  • With efficient technical building equipment, the specialist for technology, energy and service prepares the monument for a sustainable future

Cologne - Making historic buildings fit for the future - ENGIE Deutschland is supporting Art-Invest Real Estate Funds GmbH in Düsseldorf with this challenging task. The focus of the contract is the Alte Kämmerei in the old town here, which forms the urban landmark in the center together with the town hall. The listed building from 1952 stands out from the cityscape with its special style of arcades, filigree metal columns with laurel capitals and several reliefs. While the attractive façade will be preserved, the technology, energy and service specialists will be responsible for re-equipping the heating, cooling and sanitary systems inside the building. With a gross floor area of around 13,000 square meters, the building offers space for offices, retail, trade and gastronomy. The technical building services will be completed by spring 2025, with a particular focus on maximizing the added value of the project. Thomas Plümer, Head of Sales Region West at ENGIE Deutschland, explains: "Thanks to the use of 3D planning and lean working methods, we guarantee an agile project process and effective construction site operations. Our customer benefits from significant time and cost savings compared to conventional methods - and, of course, from an optimal result."

ENGIE Deutschland secures historic building in an innovative guise

ENGIE Deutschland is also focusing on efficiency by optimizing the heating and cooling technology. This includes two 150-kilowatt and two 250-kilowatt chillers as well as an 880-kilowatt district heating station. The sophisticated cooling and heating solution includes 320 static heating and cooling sails and dynamic heating via the ventilation system. The team of experts also installed around 7,000 meters of heating piping and around 4,000 meters of cooling piping. The modern sanitary trades consist of a total of around 4,500 meters of waste water, drinking water and rainwater pipes, a water treatment plant, 15 lifting systems for waste water and rainwater, two grease separator systems, a fire extinguishing system and more than 120 sanitary items. Thomas Plümer sums it up: "The new technical building equipment is setting the Alte Kämmerei up for the future in a sustainable way and fulfills the high requirements of monument protection in an exemplary manner. We are delighted to be working with our client Art-Invest Real Estate Funds to help breathe new life into this unique building while preserving its special charm."
