Looking for the best climate protection project: ENGIE Deutschland supports Energy Saver School Competition 2021

12 January 2021

Cologne, January 12, 2021 – Promoting young people's climate awareness and making the future sustainable – this is what the nationwide energy-saving master school competition has been aiming for for many years. As a partner, ENGIE Deutschland has been supporting the project since 2013 and will continue to sponsor the most efficient, creative and sustainable climate protection school project from North Rhine-Westphalia in 2021. "For us at ENGIE Deutschland, it is a matter of the heart to support the Energy Saver Competition and thus to encourage pupils to actively engage in climate protection. This is in line with ENGIE's zero-carbon strategy to accompany our customers on their way to a climate-neutral future," says Astrid Schatz, Chief Communication Officer at ENGIE Germany. In 2020, the Pictorius Coesfeld College of Apprenticeships showed what a sustainable solution for designing our living space can look like: Last year, the students won the state prize in North Rhine-Westphalia with their lighthouse project "Pictorius Wind Power". The "experimental case" for wind power, which is developed across schools with European funding and produced in series, served as a key element. The "Wind Case", created at the University of Applied Sciences, shows the basic physical phenomena of wind technology and makes it possible to design and build innovative rotor shapes. This model project for climate protection has been awarded with cash and in kind prizes worth 2,500 euros. As sponsor, ENGIE supported the college in its public relations work.

Application phase runs until 26 March 2021
The Energy Saver Contest is an initiative of the non-profit consulting company co2online and is supported by the campaign "Online Climate Protection Consulting for Germany", which is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment. The prize is awarded to the best climate protection project by and with students in each state. The competition consists of two rounds: In the first round, a jury of experts from government and society evaluates the submitted projects at the state level. Then all winners of the individual states will participate in the second round of online voting in Germany. The winning schools receive cash and material prizes worth a total of 50,000 euros. Teachers and pupils of all school types and grades – individually or as a team – can apply until March 26, 2021. Registration and further information at www.energiesparmeister.de.
