Training with a future - despite the corona crisis: Five new trainees start at ENGIE Refrigeration

11 September 2020

Providing young people with career prospects is a priority for ENGIE Refrigeration. This is also true in extraordinary times, such as the current one during the corona pandemic. On September 1, 2020, the company therefore welcomed four new trainees in the technical division and one additional trainee in the commercial division. The Lindau refrigeration and heating specialist is currently training 20 young people.

This year's start at ENGIE Refrigeration was different from previous years: "We have revised our training concept so that our junior staff will continue to receive the best possible training and, of course, all hygiene and distance rules will be adhered to. This is also runing smoothly in our state-of-the-art training and further education center, where practical instruction is provided," reports Wolfgang Steur, Head of Technical Training at ENGIE Refrigeration. What didn't change from the past years was that the five young people started their time at ENGIE Refrigeration with joy and commitment: On September 1, 2020, 1 trainee for the electronics for operating technology in the "Operations" department, 1 trainee for the mechatronics for refrigeration technology in the "Application Technology and Testing" department and 1 trainee for the plant mechanics in the "Production and Assembly" department began at the Lindau corporate headquarters. A fourth young man now completed his training as a mechatronic technician for refrigeration technology at the branch in Leipzig. They are joined by another trainee in Lindau, a yound woman who started her apprenticeship in the "Order Processing National" department. Currently, a total of 20 young people aged 17 to 34 are currently undergoing their training at ENGIE Refrigeration, represented by persons of German, Afghan, British, Cuban and Turkish nationality.

Future-proof workplace at ENGIE
In principle, the refrigeration training occupations offer good prospects, because specialists in this field are still in demand on the labor market. However, ENGIE Refrigeration primarily trains for its own needs: "It is important for us to offer young employees prospects – especially in times of corona. That's why we generally take on our trainees as permanent employees after they have successfully completed their training," emphasizes Wolfgang Steur. This August, ENGIE Refrigeration took on two former trainees in the "Service International" and "Service Lindau" departments for permanent employment.
