Municipal utilities: working together toward climate neutrality

Municipal utilities have a special responsibility in managing the energy transition. How do municipal utilities achieve stability in uncertain times? Which procurement strategies contribute to this?

This is how we accompany municipal utilities into a sustainable future

We offer the entire green product range for municipal utilities: On the one hand, we cover the complete demand for electricity and gas via a full supply with only one supplier contract and assume the balancing risk. In return, responsible parties benefit from a low workload, economic security and comprehensive expertise for sustainability and climate neutrality. We also support municipal utilities in procuring green electricity under power purchase agreements with long-term electricity supply contracts. The conditions are precisely tailored to individual needs.

In addition, we take care of CO2 reduction certificates and guarantees of origin as well as market access contracts in a targeted manner. Direct marketing, the marketing of free generation capacities and the economic optimization of all plant types are also within our area of expertise.

Jörg Nauerth, Senior Originator for ENGIE Energy Management Solutions GmbH, will be happy to answer all your questions about energy procurement and trading.

The development and realization of wind power and ground-mounted photovoltaic solutions is a complex process that requires comprehensive expertise. As a reliable partner, we get involved in projects at an early stage. We provide everything from a single source, from approval, investment and construction to decades of operation and direct marketing. We know the local needs precisely and offer flexibly adaptable models of citizen participation.

Heat accounts for more than half of the energy consumed in Germany. The transition from fossil fuels to a climate-neutral heat supply will therefore remain one of the major challenges for municipal utilities and local authorities in the coming years. To meet this challenge, considerable investments in local and district heating networks with innovative technologies will be required. It is also necessary to efficiently integrate renewable heat sources into existing and new supply systems and to develop strategies for heat storage. In this context, partnership-based business models enable flexibility in dynamic framework conditions.

With our extensive experience in the areas of heat supply, heating networks, renewable energies and subsidy management, we decisively drive municipal utilities forward on their decarbonization path. In doing so, we guarantee secure purchasing structures and open promising opportunities.

"There is enormous economic potential in municipal heat planning. With the help of our expertise in the planning and implementation of sustainability projects, municipal utilities have the opportunity to fully exploit this and thus lead the heat transition in their community to success."

Partnerships with sustainable added value

Cooperation with municipalities is one of our strengths. As a partner to local energy suppliers and municipal utilities in Berlin, Gera, Saarbrücken and Wuppertal for decades, we know exactly how to secure the future viability of companies in a constantly changing environment. In doing so, we bring comprehensive energy industry know-how to our partnerships for a stable alignment of sales, generation and grid-related activities. The network of our shareholdings as well as the connection to the ENGIE Group opens up valuable practical experience which our cooperation partners can fall back on at any time.
