Smart street lighting

Intelligent and networked: Lighting will play a key role in the smart city of the future. This is one of the keys to energy efficiency, digitalization and quality of life. Municipalities and public utilities, as well as neighborhood developers and companies, will find a powerful partner in ENGIE Deutschland on their way to a future-oriented lighting network.

Individual solutions for your requirements

  • Maximum energy efficiency
through quality-tested LED solutions and a professional light management system

  • Operation optimized lighting control
with a platform-based lighting solution in a wireless infrastructure

  • Environmental protection and sustainability
because directional, "traveling" light protects against light pollution

  • Attractiveness and quality of life
through intelligent night-time dimming and pleasant light color selection

Are you interested in a customized lighting concept?

Smart street lighting

An intelligent and networked street lighting infrastructure is the nervous system of a smart city of tomorrow. Energy efficiency, operational cost optimization, digitalization and decarbonization are rapidly gaining importance in line with attractive smart city solutions for municipalities, municipal utilities and energy suppliers. We support cities and municipal utilities, but also industry experts and neighborhood developers in the construction of a future-oriented lighting network and integrate specific IoT sensor solutions.

The ENGIE Group operates

  • 1.8 million lighting points
  • in over 600 cities worldwide, of which
  • 170,000 smart lights with more than 200 GWh energy savings compared to conventional systems.

We guide cities on their way to attractive smart cities and low carbon cities. Together with our partners, we develop intelligent concepts for your street lighting infrastructure and develop customized IoT solutions for your requirements.

Our smart street lighting services at a glance

  • Maximum energy efficiency
through quality-tested LED (special) solutions and a professional light management system for individual dimming profiles and event control; adaptive light to DIN 13201-1:2020.

  • Operation optimized lighting control
through platform-based lighting solution in a radio-connected infrastructure (for example LoRaWAN) via powerful controllers.

  • Environmental protection and sustainability
directed "traveling" light which protects against light pollution; Use of insect-friendly light colors and certified materials that take into account extended life cycles and recycling.

  • Attractiveness and quality of life
through intelligent night-time dimming, pleasant light color selection, light on demand (individual push-button request).

  • Safety through lighting solutions
Safety through lighting solutions that illuminate dangerous areas bright as day (including alarm) within seconds after certain event detection (noise level sensor, audio fingerprint, call for help detector).

  • Smart city auxiliary features
in the same wireless network and user-friendly dashboards: for example air quality and noise monitoring, traffic counting, parking availability, citizen information (digital signage), e-mobility.

  • Smart city solutions
by developing concepts for customer-specific applications, such as resource-saving irrigation (Smart Garden), where data sources, sensors and actuators are perfectly coordinated and orchestrated.

  • Low-carbon solutions
by developing a concept for the production of green energy on street lights: for example wind turbines and solar solutions on the modular ENGIE pole.

This is what makes ENGIE stand out

  • We master the complexity of the task through extensive experience in the ENGIE Group and through our powerful partner network. In this way, we offer solution expertise in a holistic approach.

  • We accompany cities on the challenging path to the Smart City and the Low Carbon City, because we are committed to our "Zero Carbon Transition" mission.

  • If you do not want to invest in your own systems, we would be happy to offer you contracting solutions, with which you can keep the costs for lighting under control at all times.

We would be happy to advise you!

All work fields linked in a modular approach

  • Inventory of the local lighting situation (light measurement)
  • Development of a standard-compliant lighting master plan (LED solution mix)
  • Concept development
  • Selection and delivery of LED lights (brand independent, also special lights)
  • Delivery of standard poles up to modular smart city poles
  • Lighting control based on radio networking via LoRaWAN
  • LoRaWAN lighting controller for control via InteliLIGHT® platform
  • Flashnet InteliLIGHT® Light Management System for controlling and monitoring the lighting points
    • Adaptive light control in compliance with DIN standard 13201-1 2020 using a single controller
    • Street lighting control (ON/OFF and dimming, based on the astronomical calendar, individual dimming profiles)
    • Predefinable exceptions to the lighting plan and manual override (event control)
    • Transparency of actual operating status (monitoring, real-time alerts, fault management and command triggering)
  • Construction of a lighting pole including earthworks
  • Installation lights and controllers
  • Integration controller in Flashnet platform
  • Commissioning of the lighting system
  • Management and monitoring (dashboard analysis and visualization)
  • Ensuring the operation of the technical installation
  • Maintenance and servicing
  • Implementation of additional functions, such as monitoring of air quality and noise, traffic and parking control and safety
  • Digital signage: digital billboards on the lighting poles for city information and additional advertising revenue
  • Development and implementation of low-carbon solutions

Pilot project Schöller/Dornap neighborhood in Wuppertal

Street lights that think along

The Wuppertaler Stadtwerke (WSW) and ENGIE Germany want to redefine the street light. The goal: to use intelligent sensors and controls not only to save energy, protect the climate and make walkways safer, but also to provide citizens with environmental data.
